Chest - mild subcostal insucking+ decreased air entry on both sides with diffuse wheezes
ENT – mildly congested throat, ears waxed
CVS - pulse of normal volume, heart sound normal, no murmur detected
Abdomen / CNS – NAD

How would you grade the severity of John’s current asthma exacerbation?

Answer

It is graded as moderately severe asthma exacerbation according to either GINA guideline or BTS guideline. However, it must be reiterated that the clinical evaluation of onset and progression of symptoms and response to preceding treatment are equally important to guide the initial treatment.
