Paediatric component of the MBBS Curriculum
- In the MBBS Clinical Foundation Block, there are lectures on paediatric history taking and examination, child growth and development, immunization, perinatal medicine, and breast feeding. Following the Clinical Foundation Block, students will attend a 2-week general clerkship that places important emphasis on self-directed learning and provides opportunities to learn basic clinical skills and understand community paediatrics. In the final year, the 7-week Assistant Internship provides an immersive clinical environment that prepares the students for the medical career.
Our paediatric curriculum aims to:
- 1. Develop Clinical Competence:
- Students will learn to assess, diagnose, and manage common and important paediatric conditions through both knowledge acquisition and practical experience.
- 2. Enhance Communication Skills:
- Emphasis is placed on effective communication with both young patients and their families to ensure the adoption of family-centred approach.

- We encourage students to engage in critical thinking and evidence-based practice and foster a habit of continuous professional development throughout their career.
Our curriculum is structured to provide a balanced mix of self-directed learning, interactive discussions and tutorials, and clinical encounters. Key components include:
- 1. Delivery of Core Knowledge:
- Covering of essential topics including growth and development, genetics, common and important paediatric illnesses, preventive paediatrics, and community healthcare.
- 2. Clinical Exposure:
- Opportunities to learn and work in various paediatric settings, including hospital wards, outpatient clinics, and community health services, with teaching and supervision by experienced paediatricians.
- 3. Assessment and Feedback:
- Regular assessments and constructive feedback ensure that students can track their progress and refine their skills throughout the programme.
